Another mother duck is bringing her ducklings to play at our place each day. We're very pleased to have her visiting because, sadly, we think the other mother duck may have lost her ducklings. Neighbourhood cats are our guess as to who the culprits may have been because, after a weekend away, we came home to find a dead duckling on the lawn and haven't seen the babies again, although mum comes to feed several times a day.
So here's mother duck number two. She's got 5 tiny ducklings and looks after them very well.
What always surprises us is show much water the ducks drink. We leave out two bowls of water for them and need to refill it more than twice a day. These little tinies are no different, however they're so tiny that they can't reach into the bowls and have to jump right into the bowls and swim in the water to get a drink.
Talk about little time wasters! We could sit and watch the cuties all day - they're so funny, tripping over their big feet, tripping over blades of grass, tripping over nothing at all. In fact when I took the picture below, they were marching along, one after the other. Suddenly the front duckling stopped and all the others just crashed into him like the Keystone Cops. Delightful.
Oh - and while I was busily taking duckling photo's, there in the background were some other babies playing with mum and dad. Baby Sparrows - must be the time of year for tinies.
Oh - look at that mother sparrow fly !!!
